This 15 minute split screen video work was developed from a conversation between my mother and I. It is basically a video of us listening to each other talk.
I think of this work in terms of collecting and measuring the distance between me and my mother. (between mothers and daughters, between generations of women, between waves of feminism). The video pays attention to paying attention: privileging the action of listening and the attempt to understand. There is no sound in the work, I took it out in the hope of making more space for the conversation you might have with your own elders.
Untitled (conversation work) was made with Carol Grbich and exhibited at Fontanelle Gallery in 2013 as part of exhibition Beyonce is a Feminist, Curated by Brigid Noone.
